Staying on top with “Childrens Art”

Etsy is a great place for crafters–if you’re a person who makes cool things (be it clothes, paper goods, and anything else) then Etsy is a great place for you. But sometimes it’s really tough to get exposure there, which is unfortunate since it has so much built-in site traffic.

I’ve started a new routine of relisting at least five times a day. Hopefully this helps me sell more (read: any) prints. Of course, much of selling on Etsy involves putting out work that is genuinely unique and distinctive, but much of it also involves helping the customers find you in the first place. This means that you want to be as close to the first search results page as possible in certain target categories.

Right now I’m focusing a lot more on promoting the prints, so in my case my target categories include “art for kids,” “nursery art” and “childrens art.” I would say that “childrens art” is by far the most difficult category to stay on top of–there’s just so much of it out there. Still, I generally see all the people that inspire me the most (John W. Golden and Berkley Illustration are just two shops that I love) on the first few pages of “childrens art” and so hopefully I am doing something right with my frequency of relisting.

We’ll see as the months and weeks pass. Wish me luck!
